How to Apply For Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana?

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is a housing program initiated by the Government of India in 2015 to provide a place to reside for millions of urban poor. This scheme aims to provide affordable housing for all the urban and rural poor.

PMAY assures the people to build over 2 million pucca homes with basic amenities like gas, electricity, and water by the year 2022. Moreover, it offers interest subsidies on housing loan interest rates to eligible candidates belonging to the economically weaker, low-income, and mid-income sections. The PMAY program is divided into two sections, PMAY – U, which is for PMAY Urban and PMAY – G, which is for PMAY Gramin; both the sections benefit the urban and rural population, respectively.

PMAY Application Categories

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana application can be under two categories:

Under EWS, MIGs, and LIGs – The components, Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Middle Income Groups (MIGs), and Lower Income Groups (LIGs) are beneficiaries under the PM Awas Yojana. For EWS, the annual income cap is set at Rs.3 lakh. In the case of LIGs, the per annum income is between Rs.3 lakh and Rs.6 lakh. For MIG, the annual income cap is between Rs.6 lakh and Rs.18 lakh. MIG and LIG categories can avail of the CLSS(Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme) component. EWS, however, is eligible under all verticals for assistance.

Slum Dwellers – A slum is defined as an area where 60 to 70 households or around 300 people stay in weak and poorly built residences. These areas are unhygienic and they lack proper facilities and infrastructure including drinking water and sanitation facilities. People belonging to this category can apply for the Housing for All by 2022 Scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

How to Apply for a House Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana?

Offline Mode

People who find the online process difficult can fill the offline application form for PMAY initiated by the government.

The procedure to apply for the scheme offline is as follows:-

Step 1: Visit the nearest available Common Service Centre (CSC), which is operated under your State Government to obtain a PMAY application form. You can also go to any bank listed under the PMAY scheme to get the form.

There is a charge to process the form which is called the processing fee which varies from bank to bank.

Step 2: Once you have received the form from the above-mentioned places, provide all the required documents and application fee, then submit them at the center where you collected this form.

The Offline application fee for PMAY is Rs. 25 plus GST.

Required Documents for PMAY Application

  • You will need certain documents for PMAY application procedure, it is advisable to keep these documents handy while applying:
  • Identity proof (Aadhaar card, PAN card, voters’ ID)
  • Address proof
  • Income proof (Form 16, bank account statement, latest IT returns.)
  • Valuation certificate for the property to be purchased.
  • An affidavit confirming that you or your family member does not own any brick and mortar house, otherwise known as a pucca house, in India.
  • Construction agreement of the building with the builder or the developer
  • The approved plan for construction of the building.
  • No Objection Certificate (NOC) produced by a relevant authority or a housing society
  • Documents certifying the conditions and quality of the property in concern
  • Letter of property allotment.
  • Advance payment receipt made for the purchase of the property, if applicable.
  • Any other important property document if required as per the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana eligibility.

Online Method to Apply for PMAY

  • Visit the official Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana at pmaymis.gov.in
  • Select the option which states ‘Benefits under other 3 components’ option by clicking on the ‘Citizen Assessment’ dropdown.
  • Provide your Aadhaar number and click on the submit option. (The site will then verify whether the Aadhaar details provided by you are correct).
  • If the information provided by you is correct, you will be moved to the next page where you need to provide all the pertinent information regarding your name, income, family members count, residential address, phone number, age of the head of the family, religion, caste and so on.
  • Once you have provided all the information, scroll down, enter the captcha code in the box and click on the submit button.
  • Next, finish the PMAY online application process. In case you have made a mistake while typing out the information, you can edit the form by providing your Application and Aadhaar number.

Slum Dwellers Application Process for PM Awas Yojana Online

The application process for the slum dwellers who need to apply for a house is the same. While all the steps mentioned above will be the same, there’s a little difference you need to keep in mind:

  • Visit the official Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana at pmaymis.gov.in
  • Then you need to select the option ‘For Slum Dwellers’ in the ‘Citizen Assessment’ dropdown.
  • Enter your Aadhaar number and click submit. (The website will then verify whether the Aadhaar details provided are correct).
  • If the information provided by you is correct, you will be moved to the next page where you need to provide all the exact information regarding your name, income, family members count, residential address, phone number, age of the head of the family, religion, caste and so on.
  • Once you have provided all the information, scroll down, enter the captcha code in the box and click on the submit button.

List of Completions under PMAY

Once you are done with the application procedure, you need to check the PMAY list of beneficiaries to cross check whether your application has been accepted.

The list of houses accomplished in urban areas is in selected cities where this initiative has been primarily implemented. It is recommended to refer to PMAY (Urban)’s official website and check the city-wise list as the progress in rural areas has been more streamlined.
